Besides DeviantART there are a few other websites & blogs that I really follow, the only one that I watch on a daily basis no matter what is called Strobist [link] & this image was taken for an assignment there. If you like to use or want to learn how to use off-camera shoe-moun t type flashes this is really the place to go (and no, he didn't pay me to say that). If you'd like to get in on the assignments the 2nd of 5 started today & isn't due til the 16th. This guy gives away for free what most professional's won't even give you if you pay them. There is a Flickr group associated with the blog also @ [link]
OK, thats the last time I will ever give someone else a plug around here, I promise. It just needed to be done since all the inspiration for this shot came from there. This is the caption that I submitted with the picture. Magazine Caption: Mr. Pat Coolwall, a modest businessman from Pittsburgh sits on the steps of his home after winning the fight everyone said we was doomed to lose. Mr. Coolwall's home is right in the center of the land that the state had planned to build the new casino's on. Always one to stand up for his belief's, Mr. Coolwall fought the state & won the right to keep his home. 3 Strobes were used, one lower & to the camera left, shooting through the railings to create shadows. One up at the top about 4ft from the subjects right side with a 43" silver umbrella. One strobe on it's stand directly behind the subject as a rim/hair light. Two 580EX's fired with the ST-E2 wireless transmitter, one Promaster 7500DX triggered optically by the umbrella flash. See the setup shot here: [link] As always, please, please, please, please let me know what you really think. Tell me if it's just totally lame & overdone or tell me what I could have done better or tell me.......anything. Please. Thank you, you guys are great! Shot Specifics: 17-85mm EF-S @ 44mm 1/160 @ f/8 - ISO100 07/02/2006 @ 3:45pm Comments
